I am so so excited to be sharing my recent work with Magpie Distilling.
Magpie Distilling is an award-winning small batch, fine quality spirit producer based in beautiful Murrurundi in the upper Hunter region of NSW. I have been following the brand since early 2020, just before our first lockdown. They were a brand new startup and their launch was delayed because of Covid.
I waited patiently for the opportunity to shoot for them. My patience rewarded me and they contacted me out of the blue and . . . here we are. When they reached out, their brief was to move away from the ‘country’ feel of their current website to something more representative of their position in the market. They were after images that were clean, contemporary and sophisticated - right in my wheelhouse!
As always, I developed a mood board (using Canva) and a shot list (using Milanote) to make sure I fully understood the brief. Once this was approved, I received a large box of their stunning range of spirits. I am in love with their gin varieties that are uniquely showcased in their rounded glass bottles, beautifully etched with their magpie symbol. Their range of spirits are named to reflect their character. The range include Wildfire, Autumn Harvest , Songbird and One Love.
E-commerce shots were first on the agenda. As beautiful and unique as these rounded bottles are, they are a nightmare NIGHTMARE to shoot! But shoot I did and I’m so pleased with the result.
Next came the styled shoot. This shoot was so much fun. Gary and I played around with lighting and props and styling and came up with a bunch of options for the client.
Below is a sample of images/proofs from which the client was able to choose.
Once the choice was made, it was time to do a proper edit in Photoshop to make sure each image was just right!
