Last month I got to shoot for the lovely Rebecca, the owner and creator of Selfish & Co Sydney.
She has a beautiful range of scented candles, herbal teas and shower steamers. Rebecca's message is that it’s ok to take a break from the day to day mayhem. Her candles are known as ‘You Reminders’ - a reminder that it’s ok to stop, it’s ok to put yourself first, and it’s ok to be a little bit selfish. I love that, don’t you?
Rebecca’s brief was to shoot a number of e-commerce images for her website - you know the kind - those images that are on a crisp white background with no distracting props and colours.
The fun part of the shoot was the range of styled images for Selfish & Co’s social media platforms.
First things first, I liaised with Rebecca to discuss her vision and to get an understanding of her visual aesthetic for her products. Once I had a picture in my head, I created a moodboard to ensure that Rebecca and I were on the same page. A mood board is a collection of images gathered together into collage form that represent the mood, colour palette and style of images that best represent the range of products. I use Canva to create mine. I get most of my ideas from Pinterest and Instagram and find images in Unsplash.
Rebecca was delighted with the mood board . Can you see the look and feel that she was after?
So, off to work I went. My first stop was the Sydney Flower Markets at 5.00am to buy all the beautiful blooms. I came home with bunches of roses, ranunculus, babies breath and geraldton wax. That should do it.
After a coffee or two I began styling and photographing Rebecca’s beautiful range of products. What do you think? Do you have a favourite?
